Grounding and Centering Practices

As we move in to this seasonal shift, it’s easy to get swept away by the desire to create and move as we tune in to the rhythms of spring. I find its times like these… where we want to ride the wave, that its also important that we pause and assess where we invest our energies. Cue Grounding and Centering.

When we feel excess energy, become out of touch, or before doing more subtle or energy based work (ahem… meditation, ritual and magic just to name a few) doing this short visualization can be profoundly helpful to connect with source and bring our energy into balance and focus.

GROUND

Start in a comfortable seat, standing or lying down on the floor or ground. Lots of options here, the main component is that there is a part of your body making contact with the earth. From here, take a few slow and measured breaths to tune in to your own energy.

After taking space to shift your awareness to breathing, start visualizing roots forming from your body into the earth beneath you. feel the roots start to work their way down deep into the soil. feel any excess energy move down through these roots into the earth. feel the earths energy move up the roots into you. take a moment to feel the symbiosis of this experience.

You can take this deeper if you’d like by allowing these roots to move down through the layers of the earth until reaching it’s core and connecting with source energy. This energy then works it’s way up into the body as you absorb the energy of the earth. Underneath the soil we come into contact with all of the elements as we work our way towards source. Feel free to explore those elements and sharing in their energy as well.

Once we feel plugged in, grounded and centered in this, we can start withdrawing our roots and pulling our energy back up into the body. Take your time here and allow space to experience how you feel. If you feel a little too much energy excess after this practice feel free to allow any excess to drain from your body back into the earth, giving it back. Once you feel aligned, slowly bring awareness back to the body.

Other practices include getting your feet on the bare earth, child’s pose, or doing anything that connects us to elemental earth energy. Go hug a tree! Be present. <3
